Earthquake in Hawaii
In this section we want to do a brief review of the natal charts of the State of Hawaii in the Sidereal and Tropical Zodiacs. We will describe major differences in interpretation between the Sidereal and Tropical that are of noteworthy interest with respect to the Sun, Moon and Ascendants. Other major signs, planets and alignments will be discussed as well.
To start, we present a bi-wheel of the charts of the Statehood of Hawaii in the Sidereal Chart to compliment the charts presented in Tropical Zodiac in the the other section:
Three elements will be first examined: Sun, Moon & Ascendant. All planets and elements can be described from four different points of view (east, west, north and south) with a central theme pulling them towards a common center.
THE SUN
In the Sidereal, the Sun is at 4 degrees of Leo in the 11th and 9th Houses. In the Tropical Zodiac, the Sun is at 28 degrees of Leo in the 11th and 8th Houses for the islands of Hawaii and the signing for statehood on August 21, 1959 in Washington, DC, respectively.
A few points are noted immediately.
11th House
In both the Sidereal and Tropical zodiacs, the Sun is in the 11th House. It means that government, large corporations, institutions and groups would be magnetically attracted to the Islands of Hawaii to do business is a leading and big way, and this is indeed the case even today.
8th & 9th Houses
In the Sidereal the Sun is in the 9th House and in the Tropical, it is in the 8th. This means that Hawaii would be a place for tourism and entertainment as well as education and higher learning.
4 and 28 degrees of Leo
At 4 and 28 degrees of Leo for the Sidereal and Tropical zodiac, Hawaii trines with the Galactic Center of the Milky Way Galaxy. This is very positive for the Islands regardless of the zodiac or chart used. It means that the islands have a special and magical connection with everything that describes the essential nature and purpose of life on planet earth. This is very much reflected by the myths and culture of the indigenous Hawaiian people.
THE MOON
In the Sidereal Zodiac, the Moon for the islands of Hawaii is at 14 degrees of Pisces in the 6th House opposing the North Node in Virgo (12th House) and squaring Saturn 7 degrees of Sagittarius Retrograde (3rd House of communication). This indicates that Hawaii’s cultural and karmic roots that conjuncts the Moon would be suppressed and controlled through the square with Saturn. The retrograde in Sagittarius suggests that it would be done through the use of unconventional laws that would have a big impact of language and communication of the common people.
In the Tropical Zodiac, we find the Moon at 8 degrees of Aries in the 6th House. The Moon conjuncts the South South in Aries and oppose the North Node in Libra, again squaring Saturn, but this time, Saturn is in Capricorn, retrograde. This alignments indicates that the use of any cultural, karmic or known skills or tradition to do business among native Hawaiians to achieve goals of a spiritual nature or to grow as large institutions within Hawaii among the common people would be virtually impossible. However, business with leading public and transformative organizations would come with ease through the trine with Pluto and the Sun in the 11th House. And that the gains from these activities would not be publicly communicated properly as shown in the square of Sun and Pluto with the Part of Fortune in Gemini in the 8th House.
THE ASCENDANT
In the Sidereal, the Ascendant is at 28 degrees of Virgo for the Island of Hawaii at the time of the signing in Washington, DC on August 21, 1959. In Washington, DC, the signing took place when the Ascendant was at 00 degrees of Sagittarius in the Sidereal Zodiac. This shows a marked difference between how statehood was viewed and interpreted by both Washington and people in the islands of Hawaii. Washington saw it as the right thing to do (Sagittarius Rising), while people in Hawaii saw it as a rational and logical move that would increase employment on the Island and provide better healthcare and hygiene for the people of Hawaii.
In the Tropical Zodiac, the Ascendant for people in Hawaii was in Libra, which means that the people of Hawaii loved the idea of statehood because it meant better relations with the United States through state partnership. The Ascendant in Washington, DC fell in Sagittarius at 23 degrees, which means that Washington’s view was more along legalistic lines and not much thought was given to partnership, justice or caring for the people that Libra represented for the people of Hawaii living far away in the southernmost part of the United States.
BRINING IT ALL TO THE CENTER
It is a complex and trying experience to reconcile and explain four astrological charts in two different zodiacs for one event that profoundly affected the formation of the United States and the State of Hawaii. It remains the main challenge that faces the islands today: how to integrate with United States mainland policies, needs and goals with those of the people of eight distinctly different islands linked by one common culture and heritage; against the back drop of modernization sweeping the islands, how to give voice and expression to historical and cultural values and rituals that are fast dying in the islands of Hawaii; how to integrate the demands of modernity, government and big businesses that dominates life of the people with the traditions and needs of local people; in the abundance of water, the neglected are thirsty – how to provide for the needs of the “little people,” who represents the heart and soul and cultural heritage of the islands; how to honor the gods in traditional ways to prevent destruction through devastating earthquakes and volcanoes; and how to find meaning and purpose among the different tribes and groups of native Hawaiians that live on separate islands holding differing cultural values, views and perspectives on the right and proper way to move the islands of Hawaii into the spotlight of self determination.
Hawaiians may find over the next months and year ahead that resolution to these issues will not be easy, and that events outside of their own control may propel social and economic realities in vastly different directions than could reasonably be expected. We watch and wait.
